YouTube contacts

Note: YouTube contacts are currently supported only on the YouTube app.
YouTube Contacts are people with whom you can share videos and chat privately with on the YouTube app. People only become contacts after an invitation is sent by one person and accepted by the other. You can add contacts to YouTube in two ways:
  • Selecting your contacts in-app
  • Connecting the app to your contact list
Add contacts

  1. Go to the Shared tab .
  2. Select View contacts.
  3. Go to the “You may know” section. This includes people you may know based on your usage of Google products.
  4. Tap Invite   to send an invitation.
You can also send invitations by tapping + Add more contacts. Send invitations to people in your phone book via text messaging, or send an invitation link through any app you want.
The recipient must accept your invitation before you can share videos with them. Recipients need the YouTube mobile app and a Google Account to accept your invitation. Invitation links expire after 72 hours if not accepted.
View & manage contacts list
To view or manage your YouTube contacts from your YouTube mobile app:
  1. Go to the  Shared tab .
  2. Select Contacts.
  3. Tap on any contact to view their channel, remove them from your contacts, or block them.
Manage suggestions for people you may know

When you share a video, people you may know may appear as suggestions based on your usage of YouTube and other Google products. When you share a video with a contact in the “You may know” section, they will need to accept your invitation before they can view the shared video.
Note that when you view a message, others in the chat will be able to see that you’ve viewed it. You'll also see when others have viewed a chat message you’ve sent; the note “Seen” or  “Seen by <Contact name>" will show in the chat.

Remove a person from your suggested contacts list

  1. Press and hold the person's name.
  2. Tap on the red that appears.
  3. If the contact you want to dismiss shows up after you select menu  to see more suggestions, you can simply swipe left and tap remove.
Receive invitations

If you are invited to connect on YouTube, you'll receive a notification that someone wants to start sharing videos with you. You can:
  • Accept the invitation to become contacts with that user on YouTube.
  • If you don't want the person to share or chat with you, you can tap the  to ignore the invitation. The person who invited you will not be notified if you ignore their invitation.
If you don’t accept an invitation for a day or more, you’ll see a reminder notification in the Shared tab . To opt out, you can manage your YouTube notifications.
When you open an invitation link on a computer or in a mobile browser, you'll receive a notification directing you to use the YouTube app, where contacts are supported.
