Website monetization

How website monetization works

Once you've enabled monetization, you can use website monetization with your websites to earn revenue in two ways:
  1. Embed the Dailymotion widget that automatically displays recommended videos
  2. Embed individual Dailymotion videos on your verified sites
On Dailymotion, many videos are served with in-stream advertisements—ads that appear before, during, or after videos (learn more about ad formats). Website monetization gives everyone the opportunity to share in the revenue these advertisements generate. Simply embed Dailymotion videos or the Dailymotion Widget on one of your sites, and earn revenue every time someone views an ad served on these videos.

To get paid, make sure to add your banking information. Earned revenue will automatically be transferred to your PayPal account or bank account every month when your balance exceeds $100. Also, you can always track your revenue and view your payments.

Using the Dailymotion widget

The Dailymotion widget is a powerful tool that allows you to easily earn revenue by embedding recommended video content on your website. The Dailymotion widget is fully responsive, so it will adapt to the screen size of any user. And, every time a user clicks and views a video from your embedded widgets, you'll earn revenue.

Note: To use the Dailymotion widget, you must have monetization enabled for your account. Learn more here.

Create a Widget

Follow the steps below to create a widget.
  1. Go to your Widgets page.
Note: You can navigate to this page in your Settings by clicking Website Monetization.
  2. Click the Create a Widget button in the top right corner.
  3. Select a layout from the list. Use the graphics and recommendations to decide which layouts are right for your site.
  4. Select the Content section header and specify the types of content you'd like to feature.
  5. Select the Styling section header to customize your widget's name and styling. By default, your widget will adapt to your website's styling.
  6. Click the Save and generate code button.
  7. Copy and paste the Embed Code to your website's HTML.
Note: This embed code will never change, even if you edit this widget's settings in the future, so you'll never need to re-embed this widget.
Manage and Monitor

You can always manage and monitor your widgets from the Widgets page.
To manage a widget, scroll to the bottom of the Widgets page, and simply click either the EditEmbed, or Delete button next to the widget you'd like to manage.
To monitor your widgets' performance, use the four analytics tabs located on the Widgets page:
  • Daily: Displays views by day.
  • Monthly: Displays views by month.
  • Device, OS, & Browser: Displays views by device, operating system, and browser.
  • Country & Language: Displays views by country and language.
You can export view data by clicking the triple bar button on the right of each graph and selecting the file you'd like to download. Or, you can choose to print the graph.

Widget, embed rules and best practices

These requirements must be followed when using website monetization:
  • All views must be organically generated.
    • For click-to-play widgets, views are counted after the video starts once a user clicks the play button.
    • For scroll-to-play widgets, views are counted after a user has watched three seconds.
  • Embed location must not host content that violates our terms of use.
  • Players must be larger than 300 x 250 px and be positioned "above the fold".
  • If auto-play is enabled, the sound on the video and website must also be enabled.
For best results, embedded videos should be seamlessly integrated into your websites and apps.
Here are some best practices to follow:
  • Use a 600 x 400 px player on your homepage to increase user engagement.
  • Use a 400 x 300 px player on other pages to do the same.
